Should I extend my trip?

Hello, I will be taking a Rhine river cruise in November and disembarking in Basel on Nov 18, we have the option of extending our stay by a few days and was wondering it it would be worth the cost.

I can have me return flight leave from any city so am flexible as to location and am not restricted to just Basel. I would likely be looking at staying an additional 4-5 nights. From what I have read November is considered the worst month to visit Switzerland, so I was just wondering if the extend trip would be worth the cost.

I would be very grateful for any input/advice on this matter. Thank you.

I don't do winter sports but I don't see any reason why Switzerland wouldn't be spectacularly beautiful in winter. We got off in Basel and drove down to the Swiss riviera and stayed in Montreux. The weather can be quite nice on the lake and it is quite beautiful, great views of the French alps. You can get to Gstaad (skiing) easily and there are cool places to see, like Gruyere and Chateau de Chillon.. I would extend, who knows when you will ever get back there!!!

The ski pistes aren't open in November, so this isn't an option.

Exploring the cities is an option, but just don't expect to see the Alps at their bests. Much of the tourist infrastructure is closed in preparation for the upcoming winter sports season, which usually doesn't get going until sometime in December.

Paris is just 3 hours away on the TGV-Lyria.

Thank you for the input all, and Tom u really hit on my concern. From what I have read I would really only be able to experience the cities at that time of year and am uncertain if it is worth the cost without also being able to really experience the alps.

On the other hand, Gordon, u are enitely correct in pointing out that I have no idea when I will be able to get back there, so my delema here.

Sam, we have also debated heading out to another country like u purpose, but were thinking more Italy or the south of Spain, since we were just in Paris a little over a year ago now.

Thanks again everyone!
