My husband and I (57ish) have a 4 night “layover” before moving on to Budapest/Vienna. We would like to low key explore for a few days and keep it simple - eat and drink and cheaply as possible. Take the train and explore. We like beer and sausages.
We land on February 11th around noon and the plan is to take a train direct from the airport (Zurich) to Luzern where we stay for three nights. We are booked at the Hotel Alpina Luzern. And then one night (February 14) at The Townhouse Boutique Hotel in Zurich. This appears to be near the train station, which is good as we plan to take an early train back to Zurich for a 7:15am flight on the 15th.
For our three days in Luzern we would like to take a boat and a winter hike on Mount Rigi. What other places would you explore? We like just wandering and walking and stopping for a beer and bite here and there. Also, I’ve read about Fasnacht, Luzern’s Carnival celebration - how crazy is that? Will it make a possibly sleepy February Thursday more fun or less fun?
With just one night in Zurich any cool places which we must check out. I’ve read The Sternen Grill is the place for sausages. True?
I’d love feedback!
