Planning to stay two nights in Murren or Lauterbrunnen. This is our second trip to Switzerland. First time, we were in June and stayed in Lauterbrunnen. This time we are going in September second week. Will the weather in mountain pleasant for hiking? What are the recommended hikes routes for two days? What are other recommeded activities? We are in age 50s and 20s, we can hike about 15000 steps per day.
Should we stay in Murren or Lauterbrunnen?
Several years ago one of our trips was in September and it was wonderful. That particular trip we stayed out of the valley in Meiringen - a town I would be happy to stay in again (maybe next month?) but not at the airbnb we stayed at.
What hikes did you do on your first visit? You have already stayed in Lauterbrunnen, did you like it there or wish you had been further up. I think this will help you decide where you want to stay this time.
I had to look up what 1500 steps translates to in terms of time and distance (a much better way to research hikes). The other thing you need to know is elevation gain - how much up and down are you comfortable with? This will greatly determine which hikes you should consider doing.
Hiking in Switzerland has different levels of difficulty. Most on this forum are comfortable with the yellow wanderweg paths, some can do the white/red/white mountain hiking trails. In general these require greater physical fitness, hiking ability (able to navigate more difficult footing on the trail), good balance and no fear of heights. Also you should have proper hiking equipment for these trails.
There are beautiful scenic hikes for all levels. You can explore them here, where you can also see the live status of all trails in the Jungfrau Region:

You can narrow down the hikes to just one village and surrounding area under 'destination' then 'discover - routes and tours - summer routes"
