September Switzerland itinerary/ St moritz?

Hello,

A friend and I are travelling to Switzerland and northern Italy in the last couple days of August/September. We will spend the first week or so in Switzerland. We were thinking of doing Zurich (1 night) >Jungfrau region (3 nights) > Zermatt (2 nights) > St Moritz (2 nights) > Italy

From Zermatt we thought of taking the Glacier Exrpress to St Moritz and then the Bernina from St Moritz to Italy.

The Glacier express is really long. The Bernina seems nice and an ideal way to travel to Italy but I am reading mixed reviews for St Moritz in the summer and I am thinking of nixing it.

Any advice on St. Moritz/alternatives or the trains?

Our main focus is scenery, culture, sightseeing, light hikes and relaxation.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Instead of St Moritz, go to Pontresina. It is just a short ways from St Moritz. From the Glacier Express, you get off at Samedan and change to a local train to Pontresina. it is a 10 minute ride. The Bernina Express stops in Pontresina on the way to Tirano.

Pontresina is definitely a lower stress and lower cost option to St. Moritz - and also a bit more scenic, given St. Moritz has a lot of dense ski lodging and more modern structures. Luckily it's all really close and if you want to visit St. Moritz from Pontresina (for, say, a nice meal or a concert) it's a quick train ride or taxi.

Have fun!

Thanks- appreciate your feedback! I have noticed this. It’s looking like a great option and there are certainly more options for somewhat reasonable hotels.

The train from zermatt to St Moritz is long so we have been wondering if there are better locations to waste less time (considered Lugano maybe - although this would be very different) but with Italy being added on at the end of the trip, it seems to make sense with the Bernina (although I know there are other ways to get to Italy).
