I will be in Zurich next September for a week and would like to do some skiing. Is this possible since it is so early in the season? If so, any recommendations within 2 hours of Zurich?

It would need to be on a glacier. Zermatt has year round skiing, but still that is pretty late. They may shut down for maintenance during shoulder season. And it is not within 2 hours of Zurich.
edit-Yes, Zermatt has year round skiing. Your talking about the glacier above Trockner Steg accessed with the lifts from town. 3 hours 11 minutes from Zurich Hbf with a change at Visp.
