Seeking for urgent help! Switzerland trip / March 25-30

This is the original itinerary which I have planned:

25 March - arrive at Zurich, depart to Luzern in the afternoon

26 March - Luzern

27 March - depart Luzern and head to Jungfrau area

28, 29 March - Jungfrau area

30 March - depart Jungfrau area and head to Venice, Italy

I have already booked the train ticket from Brig to Venice on March 30. The hotel at Luzern is already confirmed and is non-refundable as well.

However, the weather seems to be too snowy and cold to visit the Jungfrau area in the coming two weeks. We are wondering if we should visit somewhere else in Switzerland from 27 - 29 March, but at the same time, we have to get back to Brig on 30 March (around 9 am ) to catch the train.

Please kindly help to advise if there are any other places to go instead of Jungfrau area. My husband and I do not ski and we prefer some nice scenery.

Also, as of the current weather, how would the views and scenery be like if we are to travel to Jungfrau area from Luzern (taking the Golden pass)? Will it be all snow? Or will there be some greens too?

Thank you!

March 25 is way too far ahead to know about weather at that time. It is unlikely the whole area will be blanketed in snow but possible if new polar waves hit central Europe again. I'd not skip the Jungfrajoch because of snow.

At this point the weather forecast you see for late March is probably based entirely on historical averages, not on actual current weather patterns. So there is still hope.

Given the bucketing of snow that Western Europe has been getting, I don't think its unreasonable for plan for being unable to visit the Lauterbrunnen Valley (Jungfrau). If it turns out that weather makes it impractical, consider going to Bern for those days. Its our favourite city in Switzerland. The central area is vehicle-free and is mostly renaissance era buildings that have escaped fire and been preserved, but still lived in, ever since. On a clear day, you can see the Alps. It has excellent connections to Luzern. Connections with Birg I'm not sure about, but I suspect they would be suitable.

I'm afraid that if you plan to go to the mountains of Switzerland in the winter (or one week into Spring) you need to expect snow.

That said the actual weather you will get on the day is a known unknown. Nobody can predict 3 weeks from now.

Lifts, cable cars and trains will run regardless. The only thing which will stop cable cars and gondolas is wind.

Dear all, thank you so much for all the great advice...
I guess I didn't express myself precisely in my post so let me clarify a bit on my anxiety right now.

Initially we were only expecting snow blankets at greater heights like Jungfraujoch. Yet it now appears to us that even at lower levels such as Wengen, will be entirely covered by snow at the end of March. Besides, according to the weather forecasts it will be snowy and rainy, which means we won't be able to ascend the mountains for Jungfraujoch (since we won't be able to see anything there if the weather is bad). Plus we don't ski, it seems pointless for us to travel to the Jungfrau area.

Or should we still take the risk and travel there, since the weather forecasts are inaccurate as you all suggested?

It's only March 6 - How can you possibly know the weather for March 26-30???

Relax - if there's snow then grab a sled and have fun!

It appears to be foggy all day long recently on Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald First....

Is March the foggiest month of the year in Switzerland?

We now assume that we wont be able to ascend the Jungfraujoch. Apart from going on a day trip to Bern, are there any other places to go?

Please help.. browsed a lot of websites and travel books but somehow still clueless...

I share your frustration. The first time I went up the Schilthornbahn, it was foggy and disappointing. Last time, it was glorious. Both were in June, so its difficult to say one time is better than another. I have heard that the early mornings are usually the best, as fog often comes in in the afternoon (which seems, counterintuitive, but that's what I've heard).

I know the Schilthornbahn has a webcam so you can check out the visibility before starting your day trip. Perhaps Jungfraujoch has one also?
