I would like to ask anyone who has lots of experience going from Seattle to Switzerland
1. if they have a recommendation for a preferred airline with a good deal on business class and
2. also a preferred airport for the en route stop over
3. And finally, if there are airlines or airports, you would specifically avoid.
Thanks in advance!
I see Swiss has nonstops to Zurich from SEA this summer. Their business class is very nice. Unfortunately, I do not see them in March. Their 1-stop flights use either SFO or ORD, which have some downsides as far as transferring terminals. Domestic legs operated by United.
I also don’t see their flights for March - wouldn’t it be nice if Swiss flew that year-round. You might look at Delta and Lufthansa. Condor can get you there via Frankfurt - their Business class is not bad but I prefer Delta. Delta rates vary a ton - try to price on Tuesdays - those seem to be a less expensive flying day for Delta.
Stopovers on Delta will be Paris, Amsterdam and London in Europe. You can also do a US stopover. I like to do my long flight first and change in Europe. If you change in the US on Delta, you’ll get an ordinary domestic First Class seat from SeaTac to JFK, Atlanta, Detroit etc. so it’s not worth it in my mind.
Of the 3, Paris, Amsterdam, and London, I would pick Amsterdam, as it is one building, separated by a passport control point between Schengen and non-Schengen sections. Paris and London are multi-terminal airports, often requiring you to go through security again, unlike Amsterdam.
Since there are no direct flights in March, I recommend connecting in Amsterdam. Amsterdam is efficient. So fly Delta or KLM.
Don’t connect in the US, London Heathrow or Paris Charles de Gaulle.
From Seattle (where I have a home) I'd recommend flying into Frankfurt, and from there to Zurich. Both Lufthansa and Swiss air fly FRA-ZRH direct for less than $200 round trip. FRA is an easy airport to get around, there are good hotels right there if you need to stay over, and everything you could possibly need is available in the terminal.
I use Lufthansa for the FRA-SEA flight as they have a direct that only takes 10 hours.
Hi
Anyone who has travelled by Condor can you please tell me about the seats in business class and the general comfort of the flight.
I too am thinking of flying from Seattle to Zurich
We have flown Condor from Seattle in business class twice, most recently in 2022. The plane was an A330 with an amusing paint job ( all stripes, not just the tale). Seats were very comfortable ( lay flat) and the dinner was better than we have had on our many BA flights. Everything else about the flight was fine as well.
I would fly Condor again if we wanted to end up in Germany. However, the return flight is not our favorite due to the intricacies of departing from the Frankfurt airport.
“Flew” Condor once and they canceled flight 2hr before departure with only reschedule
option 3 days later. Had to book British Air at last minute to make hotel and RS tour connections. Never got reimbursement for problems. Spent many hours trying. Will never fly Condor again!
Hi Lola
I had read some very potreviews of business class seats and meals on Condor .. that’s why I had asked.
Hi digm
Thanks for sharing your experience on Condor.
It would be a very traumatic experience to have a flight cancelled 2 hours before departure.
Sorry to hear about it.
