Schynige Platte Panorama or Mannlichen KS Panorama?

The first time we visited the BO was in mid June, and the Mannlichen to KS Panorama hike was closed, so we did the short hike from KS to Wengernalp on a sunny day and the view was gorgeous!

This year we will arrive late night in Zurich and leave the next morning for the BO, unless we do the Lake Lucerne/Mt Rigi round trip and the proceed to the BO that evening. We have the next two days in the BO (total 3 days including Lucerne after arriving in Zurich), and were just wondering if the Schynige Platte Panorama short hike would be more spectacular than the Mannlichen to KS Panorama hike. We are into easy hikes (less than 2 hours) either flat or mostly downhill. In Switzerland, there are so many great choices, so a related question is whether we should just forget Lake Lucerne/Mt Rigi and go straight to Schynige Platte (store carry-on bags at Wilderswil station?). In other words, how would you rank Schynige Platte Panorama short hike, Mannlichen to KS Panorama hike, and Lake Lucerne/Mt Rigi? Just to add one more choice, there is also the short downhill hike from Allmendhubel to Suppenalp to Murren, but don't know if that is as compelling as the 3 above.

All of these plans are of course dependent on the weather and maybe we can only do one of these! That's why we want to make Plan A and Plan B.

I thought the Schynige Platte: Panorama Ridge Trail was a little rocky, but fabulous views. Some pics here:

You can see a video of the Mannlichen walk here:

I can’t pick for you. Sorry. :-) But, I can say Mannlichen is easier to get to. I wasn’t a huge fan of the train ride to and from Schynige Platte, but that might be because I had a kid sitting across from me who kept kicking me.

Thanks, Carrie! Actually the SwissFamilyFun site is the one that prompted me to look at Schynige Platte. I agree it's easier to get to Mannlichen, but we were thinking of stopping at Wilderswil on our way to Lauterbrunnen from Zurich, or maybe on the day we return to Zurich from Lauterbrunnen. It seems like only the last 15 minutes or so of the Mannlichen KS hike are the most scenic, and the KS to Wengernalp hike that we did appears to have better views.

My husband and I aren't really hikers, but we did enjoy some light hiking during our week in the BO region in October.

Our favourite by far was the Mannlichen to KS Panorama walk. It was fairly easy, although longer than I imagined. I was very grateful for the portapotty that we found along the way!

We also did the Schynige Platte short hike and found that considerably harder, primarily due to how rocky it was.

The views are great on both, but slightly different. It is hard to say which I preferred, do both if you can.

I thought the entire walk was scenic, from start to finish. I was stopping every minute to take pictures.

Thanks, DebH ! Both you and Carrie agree that Schynige Platte is rocky, which could make it harder for a couple of people in our group of five.

That's good to know, Carrie! As of right now, we'll plan to do Mannlichen-KS, and time/weather permitting maybe also do Schynige Platte, unless we spend time at Lucerne/Rigi.
