Hello All,
Will be traveling from Brig to Milan in late September.
I am thinking about taking the Centovalli Eurocity scenic train from Domodossola to Locarno, and then on to Milan.
However, the direct train from Domodossola to Milan is over 3 hours shorter.
My question: Is the Centovalli scenic train worth the extra 3+ hours of travel time?
I welcome and thank all responders.
LK
It really depends on what you want to do with your time (and money). If you have nothing else to do that day and wish to take in the scenery, why not go the long way. Also do you have a Swiss Travel Pass or Saver Day Pass, or are you buying a ticket outright. Swiss rail tickets are generally priced on distance traveled, so going the long way costs more.
Your fastest way coming from Zermatt (per your other post), is to go early afternoon with a single connection in Brig to the EC train to Milan. You can also get a discount with a nonrefundable advance purchase Smart fare on the EC train. That takes 3 hours and 49 minutes from Zermatt to Milano Centrale. Just be careful as the train from Zermatt drops you in front of the station, giving you 12 minutes to run across the street to the station, locate your platform and walk up to it ready to board the EC train.
