SBB ticket purchase 2nd class intended to book first class

Just purchased tickets from Spiez to Venezia thru SBB. Mistakenly booked 2nd class tickets in my back and forth of checking various options. Is there a way I can change these tickets to first class with obvious increase payment, without having to book a new reservation and absorb the financial loss?

Second class is very nice on Swiss trains. I've never felt the need to upgrade.
Safe travels!

Which routing did you buy? And which fare category?

Switzerland - Italy trains have their own tariff system, and conditions. If you bought a standard ticket it is refundable, and you can buy another one. If it is however a discounted ticket it is not refundable.

However 2nd class is fine, as these trains have compulsory reservation they are not going to be overloaded.

If you are unable to cancel and rebook without penalty, you can ask to upgrade on board. I have seen many people mistakenly sit in 1st class and the conductor has offered them the upgrade if they do not want to move.

While I agree 2nd class is fine, it is often more crowded to the point of SRO, so we choose 1st class knowing we won’t be tripping over other people, especially on a long trip.

On trains to Italy it will not get crowded to the point of SRO though, as you cannot use these trains without a seat reservation...
