So I'm on the SBB app, looking at purchasing tickets from Basel to Lauterbrunnen for 5/25, supersaver ticket is about 39, while "supersaver class upgrade" is 35. I thought oh that must be a supplement to upgrade to 1st class, but I'm not able to select BOTH supersaver ticket and supersaver class upgrade. Anyone had issues with this fare and/or app?
Supersaver Class Upgrade cannot be used to upgrade a Supersaver 2nd class ticket. There are, however, Supersaver 1st class ticket.
But why travel 1st class in Switzerland? It is helpful on main commuter routes at peak hours and on some tourist routes in peak season: none of these conditions apply in your case.
I had this same question and found this thread so thought I would add on. Could the Supersaver Class Upgrade be an actual ticket? When I’m in the app, I am unable to choose it and any ticket at the same time - as if they are mutually exclusive. If it were simply an upgrade, wouldn’t I be able to purchase a ticket too? It’s much cheaper than the other ticket options - so I’m confused!
From SBB website:
Day Class Upgrades are only valid in conjunction with a Half Fare travelcard and a Day Pass (Day Pass for the Half Fare travelcard, municipal Day Pass, special Day Pass, Saver Day Pass) or with a 2nd class GA travelcard.
Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
