SBB Site Doing Maintenance Work Every Time I Try

Today I thought I'd try again to get SBB tickets from Tirano to Chur and then on to Zurich and Luzern. When I try to buy the desired ticket, today the message is:

Dear customers,

There is no access to Ticket Shop due to maintenance work.

We recommend that you buy your tickets at our ticket machines.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

The SBB.ch team

I have tried several times before and never succeeded in buying tickets for May 8, but didn't receive this precise message.

Supposing I take the message at face value and buy my tickets in Tirano, what is the likelihood that I can arrive at Tirano at 10:52 on Trenord and then buy a ticket to Chur and get on a train departing at 11 a.m.? At least I would have 13 minutes in Chur to try to buy my ticket on to Zurich/Luzern.

I'm puzzled because the forums don't mention others not being able to buy SBB tickets.

I also see that message right now, but don't see it frequently. Try yet again in a day or two.

I don't really trust the 8-minute plan in Tirano. You can no longer buy tickets onboard the train in Switzerland. If you had enough rail travel to consider a Swiss Travel Pass, then that's another option that you can have in hand and it comes pre-validated. You may also be able to buy tickets at a train station or travel agency in Milan or at the travel agency (limited hours) in Varenna (if staying there).

Thanks, Laura. I may just have had bad luck on the website, so I'll try more persistently this week.
