Saver Day Pass validity in Lauterbrunnen and the Berner Oberland

Hi there, I'm planning to buy a Saver Day Pass from SBB for a single day of my trip that I'm planning to spend in Lauterbrunnen and the immediate surrounding area (my base is in one of the cities so I need a longish train journey to and from Lauterbrunnen anyway). Crucially, I won't have a Half Fare Travelcard with me, as it just doesn't make financial sense to buy one for one single day of use.

Anyway, I'm trying to work out exactly how much the Saver Day Pass covers in the Lauterbrunnen area: obviously the big trains are covered, but what about the PostBuses? Or the railway between Mürren and Grütschalp? I've been looking at the SBB website trying to figure it out but it's not the most user-friendly. (It tells me "Whether on SBB trains or trains of other rail companies, on boats, buses, trams or postbuses, the Saver Day Pass opens up a wide range of routes for you", which is delightfully ambiguous.)

Any info as to what exactly the Saver Day Pass covers, especially in the Lauterbrunnen area, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The Saver Day Pass has the same coverage as a Swiss Travel Pass. You can see that on this map of validity for the STS:

https://www.travelswitzerland.com/en/download/swiss-travel-system-map-en-2023/?wpdmdl=14294&masterkey=63a023c8da36c

T0 answer your specific questions, it does cover the cablecar from Lauterbrunnen up to Grutschalp and the little train from there to Mürren. It also covers the cablecar from Gimmelwald down to Stechelberg and the look stubs from Stechelberg to Lauterbrunnen.

Thank you! And just to check, when we say the SDP "covers" certain things, that means it covers the total cost, right? It's not like a "50% discount" situation or something like that?

Yes, “covers” = “fully covers” as I used the term. The general rule is that the Swiss Travel Pass, and by extension a Saver Day Pass, fully covers the cost of travel between towns and villages, whether by train or by boat. Even by cablecar where that is the means of reaching the village, such as the cablecar up to Grutschalp or the Cablecar between Mürren—-Gimmelwald—-Stechelberg.

Above the village, the STP provides a discount on the lifts used for sightseeing and recreation; usually 50%. These are indicated on the validity map by dotted lines, while lines with “full coverage” are shown by solid lines. I don’t know if the SDP provides these same discount.

However the Saver Day Pass does not provide any discounts outside the GA area. For instance, to go from Muerren to Piz Gloria on the Shilthornbahn, the STP gives a 50% discount, but with the SDP (no HFC) you must pay the full price.

This is all really useful, thank you so much! Just one more question, maybe a silly one: what is the GA area? I see it mentioned all over the place but I can't find what it stands for or precisely what it means...

what is the GA area?

Sam explained it on another post: GA= General Abonnement, aka a season pass. It only covers transport modes to inhabited locales, not tourist sites like Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch, although it does include some like Rigi Kulm and Stanserhorn.
