This summer I will be traveling by train from Salzburg to Zurich. I have flexibility with my time line, so I'm wondering what towns - if any - are worth an overnight (or two) stop between these two cities.
Thanks in advance
Hi Photomck,
Innsbruck would be a good choice. It's about half-way and on the same train line, if you go through Austria (other trains will go through Munich and southern Germany). See the Austrian Railways website for train schedules and tickets: www.oebb.at/en. They sell cheaper, advance purchase tickets called Sparschiene tickets, which are more restrictive, but quite a savings if booked several months ahead. Rick's Vienna, Salzburg & Tirol book lists hotels and details on sites to see. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the suggestion on Innsbruck and the train information. Once I finalize my itinerary, I'll look into the advanced ticket options. Thanks
Here is the Man in Seat 61's info on Salzburg-Zurich. Be sure to read his advice re: ticket purchase.
