For our upcoming trip to Switzerland this summer, I am planning on using the station-to-station shipping service. How safe is that service? Is it safer, the same, or less safe than checking luggage on a airline?
Many people use it. My family has used it with no issue. Specifically comparing it to the safety of airlines is an impossible task here.
I don’t think the question is safety, it’s more of does it actually make sense to do. For some, sure.
I’m sure airline-checked luggage is far more risky than checking luggage on Swiss trains. Not sure there’s much risk at all with the Swiss trains.
Can't think of anywhere safer to do this, except Japan
My Swiss in-laws use this service when they take various local vacations and have never had any issues.
You may already be aware, but your luggage doesn't arrive the same day—it's delivered two days later. This can be inconvenient for tourists who aren't able to send their bags on ahead of time.
You can see that here the SBB website:
Drop off your luggage today and collect from your destination station the day after tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies, they confirmed what I expected.
