RS tour next year; considering combining with a cruise. Is this a good or bad idea?

We have a spot reserved on the best of Switzerland RS tour next year and are considering following it up with a cruise. The RS tour is over after breakfast on a Friday and we would need to be in Stockholm on Monday at 5pm. We will be spending a couple days in Stockholm already via the cruise.

  1. How would you suggest spending the weekend before arrival in Stockholm? We would love to take a longer scenic route to get there but unsure what that looks like. Open to any suggestions.
  2. What is the best way to get to Stockholm from Bern?

I personally think it is a great idea! You have spent the $ to make it to Europe and you are maximizing that airfare. I absolutely loved the Best of Switzerland tour and I have loved the two cruises that I did in Norway. Combining them sounds wonderful.

Your biggest challenge is going to be making sure that you don't overpack thinking about the cruise ahead where people tend to bring more items than on a land tour. Reality is that you can do just fine without any extra on your cruise if you simply have one nice outfit along (dress or skirt,/shirt with a collar) for the more "formal eves" on the cruise.

What is the best way to get to Stockholm from Bern?

I think flying is the answer to that question.

Did only a cursory look but train or bus looks to be a 16-22 hr trek with multiple changes

I would plan to be in Stockholm no later than Sunday.

Looks like a great idea to do both and you have plenty of time in between.

GREAT! So if we fly to Stockholm on Sunday, then that leaves Friday after breakfast and all day Saturday. Any wonderful spots nearby that we should not miss? I imagine flying from Zurich to Stockholm is the best route, unless we might end up somewhere else based on any suggestions. So please suggest away!!

As far as overpacking, it shouldn't be a problem. We have access to laundry facilities on the cruise and we usually travel with our carry on only. Love to travel, and looking forward to seeing more of Europe that we haven't explored yet!!
