My wife and I have been on several RS tours but feel the pace may now be too much for us.
Would like a few comments from those of you that have experienced both.
Did the absence of pre-planned days and group events significantly impacts the travel experience?
Thanks
Please read on RS website the difference between the two types of tours. Breakfast is included as well as hotels and tranfers between points. You have a tour director who gives you ideas of what to see and do for the day but no local guides no entrance fees or dinners are included.
Read the tour that interests you and see what is included. Most tours give you half a day or one full day (a vacation from your vacation) so you can relax while on tour. With the audio that you get on tour you can take your time as a rule. Perhaps ask about the particular tour you want. Hope this helps
I have been on only 1 My Way: Alpine, and it was one of the best of my RS experiences. I think I am at #10. Well, I can see the value of learning from tour guides. However, I did a lot of research on the alpine locations, and I feel comfortable in alpine areas - German-speaking, especially. I had been to some of the locations before. What the My Way format did for me was to allow me to kick back a bit and not be so driven by an itinerary.
The group was lovely and interacted well - very supportive co-travelers. Tour members often ended up eating together. I liked it. Not so much early rising and more discretionary time - a vacation - in foreign lands and beautiful countries! So, yes, the absence of pre-planned days had a positive impact for me, and while we did not have so many planned group events, there was plenty of bus time to get to know folks and there were a few get-togethers - informal, convivial.
