Round trip Zurich or multi city?

Hello,
Thanks in advance for any responses! We are going to Switzerland this December and need to get flight booked asap. Places to visit - Zurich, Luzern, Grindelwald, Lausanne, Colmar, France - all by train. Does it make sense to fly into Zurich and out of Geneva? Its only a 10 day trip.
Many thanks!!!

It’s almost always better to fly into one city and out of another to prevent backtracking. But it depends on where your last stop is. In your case, Colmar is within 3 hours of several international airports: Paris, Frankfurt, Basel and Zurich. So it just depends on flight options & prices from those airports - assuming you are flying from the US. There’s also an airport in Strasbourg if you are flying from Europe.

You will want to sleep in the city you will be flying out of, so consider that expense when looking at flight prices. The only exception might be a later flight out of Basel, which is less than an hour from Colmar. Hotels, food and transportation may be much higher in Switzerland than in Germany or France.

If you are willing to take a 3-hour train from Geneva to Paris, you might check the multi-city fare flying out of Paris (CDG). It's almost always cheaper than flying out of Switzerland.

Check hotel availability in Colmar. It gets really busy (and prices can double) for the Christmas markets.

Lausanne is close to Geneva, so if you were to fly out of Geneva, I would go Zurich, Colmar, Luzern, Grindelwald, Lausanne, Geneva Airport.

If you were to fly r/t to Zurich, I would go Zurich, Colmar, Lausanne, Grindelwald, Luzern, Zurich Airport.

For a 10 day trip you are trying to fit in to much. What is the purpose of this trip? What do you want to see?

Purpose of trip is to see scenery - which should be no problem given the destination!:). Flying into and out of Zurich now, straight to Appenzell for 1 night, Luzern - 2 nights, Gimmelwald 2 nights, although not sure that is a good idea to visit the region in December?, Colmar, 1-2. nights, Zurich, 2-3 nights. Of high interest is Christmas markets, Lake Luzern cruise, gondola to Mt. Pilatus, scenic mountain and valley views, museums in Zurich. You all are the best!
