Road Between Diemtigen and Broc/Gruyeres?

We are now planning to rent a car for a day to see Diemtigen (ancestral home area) and the cheese/chocolate factories in Gruyeres and Broc. Google maps shows a road over what appears to be mountains that is slightly faster than driving back through Bern. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me whether this is an easily drivable road or if we should go back through Bern. It would be fun to see some new country and it is probably beautiful, especially if it is a mountainous area. But, it also could be a slow drive if it is a bunch of switch backs with cliffs off to one side.

Thanks for any insight!

Jaunpass has switchbacks, but it is not precipitous. The terrain is quite mellow, of the cow-grazing variety. There is a beautiful viewing spot 200m south of the pass, so I suggest you stop at the pass for a bit. I would definitely take that route over the highway via Bern and its perpetual construction.
Do not expect to make the Google Maps time, though. It overestimates mountain speeds, unless you are really used to mountain driving and not stuck behind a truck at any point.
