Arriving Zurich 2.5 days before river cruise. Will have 1.5 days in Zurich with cruise so not interested in sights in Zurich at this time. Suggestions for day trips from Zurich or maybe using base for day tours/sights in Lucern? Will be there the last of October. Thank you.

Go straight to Lucerne and base yourself there. No need to stay in Zurich. There are direct trains to Basel SBB from Lucerne.

We stayed in Lucerne for a couple of days before our Rhine river cruise. Loved it! And very easy to catch the train to Basel to start our cruise.
