Hi,
I am in Vitznau tonight and plan to go up to Rigi late morning tomorrow. I recall reading a great guide somewhere, but can't find it now.
I would like to do a nice walk, see some views, have lunch. I will have about 5 hours to spend.
Thank you
If the weather is nice, you can just hike down from Rigi Kulm to Kaltbad and take the cable car down to Weggis and back to Vitznau on the boat. I was there about this time last year and it was cold and windy and raining at Rigi Kulm, so I just had a soup and a beer in the cafe there and rode back down to Vitznau.
There should be cameras showing the summit. Is there snow? One December we were there right after a fresh snowfall, and there were already footsteps in the snow from the hikers.
Have a great time.
Thank you all! Yes, it shows snow and winter hikes are open, getting ready to go and will com back to share
Ola, pls do. Fresh powdery snow on Rigi was magical, against the bright blue skies. Enjoy!
I am back from a glorious day on the mountain, weather above the clouds was very sunny all day, no wind at all, people walked in t shirts. The items I wish I brought with my would be a sunscreen and walking sticks. I walked around the summit, then walked down all the way to Rigi Cultbud. It's a little steep, and with snow on the ground a little slippery, but I managed and it's one of the most memorable walks of my life. Sun, blue skies, snow capped mountains and a sea of clouds below us, made for an unforgettable experience. Thanks for your help with planning! I also wean for a loop very level and also very beautiful walk in Rigi Cultbud.
Tomorrow I will take 8am train from Luzern to Interlaken, supposed to be sunny. On to Thun, walk around and catch a boat to Spiez, just because I love boats and it's included in my Eurail pass. From there train to Zermatt.
If you want another scenic train ride, take the RE1 from Spiez to Brig, over the old route through Kandersteg. At Brig you can either take the direct train to Zermatt, which departs from the tracks in front of the station, or a train to Visp from inside the station and change to the train to Zermatt there. *
