How cold are the buses on Rick Steves tour? Can you wear shorts if it's sunny? Going in September

The bus driver keeps the bus temperature comfortable based on input from the group. You can wear whatever you want.

As the others mentioned, you can wear whatever you like. However in September, some of the mountain areas may be a bit "chilly", even if the sun is out. You might send a note to the RS Tour Dept. and ask them for an opinion on wearing shorts at that time of year.

We had shorts weather for most of our amazing fantastic tour, which just ended. Now it’s quite cold in Murren/Wengen. You have to prepare for everything, as they haven’t had rain in 3 months and of course in Lugano we expected sunny, warm conditions and got hit with 2” of rain in one day.
The bus driver adjusts temp but always keep a sweater/sweatshirt on the bus. You get off the bus and it might not be warm.
Wear whatever you want and makes you comfortable. It only seemed to be men wearing shorts, women had on dresses or capris and everyone wore long pants too. And definitely raincoats were needed one day.
