I will be taking a number of scenic trains in Switzerland in early September. I will be traveling 2nd class for most of them. The one exception is that I want to get a front row VIP seat in 1st Class on the MOB Panoramic Train from Zweisimenan to Montreux, if possible. Can this be done and if so, how does one go about paying for the difference in classes? Thanks!
At any train station in Switzerland, pay the upgrade fee to cover the difference between a 1st and 2nd class ticket on that route, about 25 Swiss Francs. For the reservation, see http://www.mob.ch/en/reservation-procedure.
I did not upgrade on that line and didn't feel like I was missing much. The regular views from the regular windows are stunning enough, you'll fill your camera memory card in no time. We did sit in first though, and you could get wine.
I thank you both for your input!
I downloaded the SBB app and bought my upgrade through that-- very easy since I had credit card issues with the site itself. On the train, the two middle seats in the front are the best. The side seats have a somewhat obstructed view due to the design of the front windows (but still amazing).
I loved this leg of my trip-- same views as regular seats, yes, but it felt so much more exciting! To me, it was very much worth it. The first view of Lake Geneva as the train rounds the corner towards Martigny.... incredible!!!
