We are renting a car in Zurich. Can we take that car into Germany for a day & then back into Switzerland the same day? Do we need to do anything special in order to do so?
Thx!
You may be able to poke around their website for answers. If nothing else, discuss when you pick up the car. We rented a car in Bilbao two weeks ago but were spending the first week of our trip in France. We had to pay a supplement (it was nominal - 50 euros) to take the car to France. As the rental agent explained it, Spanish insurance does not extend to cover incidents in France, plus if anything happened to the car while in France, they'd have to tow it back to Spain. Therefore, we had to pay the supplement to ensure coverage for any problems.
You can virtually take the rental car wherever you want. Just beware that Austria and Switzerland have short term window stickers that operators have to purchase at the border or close by the border.
There may be some countries in the far eastern Europe that they don't want their cars going into. Check the rental company's list of terms and conditions online. I noticed one rental company didn't want their German rentals going into Croatia--for some reason.
Please don't rent from Enterprise. It is notorious for overcharging customers for damages they never make.
