We are traveling from Gimmewald to Montreux, and then on to Paris the next day. This will be on July 6 during the jazz festival. I read a comment somewhere that unless you get the front car on the Goldenpass the regional train is just as good, has open windows, and is less expensive. Any thoughts on this? Also, do you think we need to reserve all trains ahead of time since we are traveling during the jazz festival? I'm not sure how crowded the trains will be.
From Interlaken Ost to Zweisimmen, you will be on a regional train. On some runs, you may need to change trains at Spiez. At Zweisimmen, you will change trains as the track guage from Zweisimmen to Montreux is narrower. At this point, it looks like every other train is a Golden Pass panorama train. I checked the fares for both the regional and panorama trains and the fares are the same. However, in my experience on other scenic trains, there was a special reservation fee of at least 15CHF on the scenic train on top of my train pass.
