Recommendations for Visiting, Touring and Hiking

Good day - I’m writing to ask for your recommendations on travel order from Zurich to the Alps to see Lauterbrennan, Murren, Grindelwald, Interlaken and Zermatt. We want to walk the towns, hike and see the Matterhorn and Jungfrau. What train pass should we purchase for a trip in late June - early July? Thank you!

This trip sounds like 3 bases, Zürich, Greater Lauterbrunnen/Jungfrau Region, and Zermatt. Is that your thought as well? How many nights will you spend in each place?

Yes I think so- 1 night in Zurich and the rest in Lauterbrennan and Zermatt. What do you recommend on dividing our time and where to stay in the alps? Thank you.

Minimum 3 nights in Zermatt and as many as you can in the Jungfrau Region. Stay in any of the villages, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, or Wengen. Finding lodging may be tricky at this late date.

There is a pass called the Berner Oberland Regional Pass that is of value for any time int that Canton. Zermatt has a pass available, too.

Once you have number of nights in each location figured out (try to sketch out what you want to do each day in each location) and your route of travel, come back and we can answer pass questions.

Do you have Rick Steves’ Switzerland guidebook? Invaluable as he carefully lays out logistics you need to know tha5 we cannot fully brief you on here. There’s just so much to know!

Thank you. I’m going to order the guidebook now and which Oberland village/town is the most convenient for travel to the other towns?

I like Lauterbrunnen best as it is the transport hub for the valley and to leave the valley you have to go thru Lauterbrunnen to get anywhere else.
