Recommendations for Geneva

We're landing in Geneva and thought a tour of the CERN and perhaps a visit to the United Nations would be interesting. Has anyone done this and do you recommend? Any other sights you highly recommend?
Suggestions on where to stay, with the idea of heading to Zermatt next would be appreciated. Thanks!

We stayed for ten nights in Montreux last August and absolutely loved it. Vevey was another large town that looked like a wonderful option for lodging.

We tried to do a guided tour at CERN and failed. Just a heads up - they are first-come first-serve, and the line is typically hours long.

Perhaps things have changed. We booked tickets to CERN 2 weeks in advance. I would check the website and communicate with them regarding crowds/strategies. It may also depend on time of year. We took a tram to the UN and couldn't get close due to a demonstration. That would be another website to visit. What we could see of the grounds of the UN was interesting.

We only stayed one night in Geneva and that was to go to CERN. We had stayed in Lauterbrunnen and then took the train stopping in Montreaux to see the chateau which I would highly recommend. They do have luggage storage, if needed.

We didn't love Geneva and it was expensive to stay there. If we went back and wanted to stay on the lake, I think I'd look at Lausanne or Vevey.
