We are planning first time trip to Switzerland end of March and welcome trip itinerary suggestions for about a 6 day trip starting from Geneva and flying out of Zurich. would like to get a chance to ski for intermediate skiers. and see the ALPS. would like to consider train travel vs renting a car. this was a last minute plan due to lower airfares now.
Go to the Berner Oberland.
We spent 10 days in Geneva in 2017. I’d say 2 full days + whatever day trips to be added on.
Here are some ideas:
Historical walking tour
Botanical Gardens
CERN
Saint Pierre Cathedral
UN Tour
Bus to Chamonix (good place for an overnight)
Day trip to Lausanne
Day trip to Montreux
End of March can be lovely around lake Geneva, or it can still be wintry. It really depends.
Given the uncertainty, I wouldn't linger too long: maybe 2 nights in Vevey or Montreux. Geneva isn't bad as a base either, but perhaps not in March.
Then, from Montreux, you can make your way to Mürren or Wengen or Grindelwald and have access to good, mellow skiing (more extensive in Wengen and Grindelwald) in amazing scenery.
Another option, with better skiing if you are strong intermediates, and better snow at the end of March, would be Zermatt.
