recommend itinerary for Switzerland, Austria

I'm planning time trip to Switzerland end of May and appreciate trip itinerary suggestions for about a 6 day trip starting from Zurich .

Wondering should spend all 6 days in Switzerland or spend 2 days in Austria ?

Nope: Would skip skiing ares as been at Colorado during winter break 2021.

Thanks

Andy

You don't mention too many of your interests except that they don't include skiing on this trip. If you tell us more about yourself, it will help people give you suggestions.

Six days is hardly enough to scratch the surface in Switzerland so I would not try to do Austria unless there is a "must see sight" there that you don't think you can live without seeing.

In general, people fly into Zurich and then move onto their first location that same day. Luzern is a popular first stop as it is not far by train (you get the train right at the airport) and it has a variety of activities involving both lakes and mountains. You could spend two nights there. I would move on to the Berner Oberland area which is a favorite location for many of us on this forum. I would spend 3 nights there. I'm not sure how much snow is left at the end of May, but I usually stay in Murren. Lauterbrunnen is lower and might be a better choice. Hopefully, someone who has visited in May will be able to tell you.

That leaves you one night on the way back to Zurich. You might enjoy visiting Bern.

The more information you can post here about your interests, the better answers you will get.

I suggest saving Austria for your next trip and stay in Switzerland (CH) since you only have six days. While in CH go to the Berner Oberland. If you were going to add another place pick Bern (1h) since it’s the most convenient by direct train followed by Luzern (2h).

Thanks for all your suggestions to focus on Switzerland. I'm planning to book an apartment in Lucerne and have day trips to all attractions nearby . Please send the recommendations on "Must -see" attractions.

For Lucerne, I’d check out a couple of the mountains—Rigi, Pilatus, Titlis, Stanserhorn.

For Luzern, one very pleasant excursion is boat to Alpnachstad, funicular up to Pilatus, lunch at the top, gondola down to Kriens then bus back to Luzern. You can do the whole thing on a single ticket which you can get from Luzern train station.

The old town in Luzern is well worth a look round. It has two well-known wooden bridges. Also there is a medieval wall you can walk along on on. There’s the Glacier Garden, formed in the Ice Age, all within walking distance of the station. I made a YouTube video on these - I think the link is in my profile, or you can search for me on there.

If you like museums, the transport museum is worth a look.

We looked at adding Austria to a Switzerland trip, and you'll be surprised how difficult it is. They look so close together, but in European terms, Vienna is quite far "east." Not great train connections either. I think your 2 days in Austria would mostly be spent in transit.
