Hi all, what are your best suggestions for rainy days in Lucerne? I'll be there in a week and a half, and rain is the current forecast... I'm hoping that forecast will change (it's shifted quite a bit just in the last few days!), but just in case... what would you do with a day in rainy Lucerne?
Keep in mind that when they forecast rain for a day, it could be the whole day or ten minutes. I usually watch the sky. When we were in Luzern and the skies looked like they would be gloomy for the whole day (and it was) we took the train to Bern. It didn't matter that much that we didn't have sunny skies, we walked the interesting old town and went the the Einstein exhibit at the history museum. Wished that we had gone into the Parliament for a tour, but didn't have time. The clock tower in Bern is very interesting.
The Rosengart museum in Luzern was interesting and had a lot of "important" pieces of art by Impressionists, Picasso and also by Swiss artists (Paul Klee). We wouldn't have gone but it was included on the Swiss Travel Pass and we were glad that we did. There are several churches in the old town that are very worth going into. If its not pouring, it still is enjoyable to walk around the old town of Luzern. Also, Rigi can be cloud covered and the other mountains clear and vise versa. We went the Bourbaki Panorama museum and found it interesting and we learned a lot of history. We did not go to the Transportation Museum, but it is supposed to be exceptional.
If you didn't pack one, get a good rain jacket. There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

And 1.1 mm over 6 hours is a gental female rain.
Swiss transportation museum is a quick bus ride away. Interesting displays and the transit pass you get from the hotel covers the bus fare.
The Swiss Transportation Museum in Luzern is one of the best in Europe. It is easy to pass 2-3 hours there. As others have said, it probably won't rain all day. :-)
