Lausanne has several museums, including the Olympic Museum. Lausanne is the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. Take an umbrella and bop around Interlaken. My wife wanted to see where real Swiss people do real shopping, so we went to the Landi. It is about a 10 minutes walk from Interlaken Ost station opposite direction from the center of town. Cowbells (like what real farmers put on real cows), power tools, skis, wine, blue jeans, hardware, muck boots, and anything else necessary for rural life. A nice contrast to the dozens of shops selling Swiss Army knives and watches going the other direction from the station.

Gruyere can be a good option for either locale. In addition to it's famous cheese, it has a mini-castle, cute shopping, and the HR Giger Museum (home of the sci-fi artist who created the created the look of Alien and other famous movies)and there is also the Callier-Nestle Chocolate factory nearby which is open to the public.

Heidi, excellent question! I was just going to post the same one for Lauterbrunnen/Wengen. : )

I saw on the Bing photo last week, this location: St. Beatus Caves We thought we might head there if it's complete fog one day. Also, if you're not familiar with Trummelbach Falls, those were worth walking to on the Lauterbrunnen valley floor.

But, let's pray for fantastic weather in such a beautiful location!!

From Lausanne, you could go to Montreux and visit Chateau Chillon. Beautiful little castle nestled in the rocks at the edge of Lake Geneva. Lovely! The cathedral in Lausanne is great for an hour or so. There is also an interesting food museum on the promenade in Vevey if you're interested in such things. It is actually beautiful and interesting!
