I purchased two Adult 2nd Class Swiss Travel Pass, 15 days and two Rail Protection Plan Single Country Passes for a trip to Switzerland in September. I just found out that I will need surgery in August, and now I need to cancel all my travel reservations.
Any tips on how I can get a refund for these tickets? I logged on to the Rail Europe site, and found refunds, but it's not recognizing my booking #. Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Contact the Rick Steves office, contact information is at the bottom of this screen.
Have you tried calling their 800 number and speaking with customer service. Here's the number 1-800-622-8600. I had a problem 2 years ago and they solved it quickly and to my satisfaction. You bought the tickets from Rail Europe not from Rick Steves so they're the ones to issue any credits.
For an 85% refund to your credit card, simply ship your rail passes back to the address listed at https://ricksteves.raileurope.com/rail-help/customer-support/exchanges-and-refunds-on-a-rail-pass.html.
If you want to make a claim against the RPP, you can fill out the form at https://ricksteves.raileurope.com/rail-help/booking-with-rail-europe/the-rail-protection-plan.html, but I don't recommend that. You get 100% "refund" instead of 85%, but only in the form of a credit to be used on one future purchase within two years.
Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate it.
