Quiet and Family cars on trains?

We have heard some Swiss train cars are designated as “quiet” and others as “family” cars. How do we know which before we board the train? Thanks.

There are only quiet cars in 1st, and family in 2nd. The location of the family car is often announced, and also shown on the the platform displays.,

The sequence of cars is similar on most Swiss IC trains. Usually its:
1st class business car (will be full with people working on laptops)
1st class quiet car.
1st class normal
Restaurant.
4 Second class cars.
Second class family car.

You can see an example here wat platform displays look like:

The letters on top are sectors. They refer to signs on the platform. The little red "target" sysmbol is where the display is. That permits you to prepostion yourself before the train arrives, as trains stops are often short. The teddybear symbol indicates the family car.

The teddy bear by the door shows the family car but in addition quite often they are painted with fun kid friendly bright colored designs on the car to stand out.
