quick visit to bern

Prior to our RS tour we hope to add in side trip to Bern to check my grandpa's home village (Munchenbuchsee) and were debating flying into either Geneva or Zurich then catching a train to Bern. Anybody have any feed back as which arrival city they'd suggest, and/or favorite places to stay in Bern. From there we'll probably catch a train up to Haarlem and wonder if it would be better to catch an ICE or the nightrain?

derk,

I'd suggest flying into Zürich, as its a larger airport and you'll likely have better flight choices. There's a rail station right at the airport which will get you to Bern very quickly.

For places to stay, I found the Hotel Continental to be very comfortable, and it's within easy walking distance from the rail station.

In that situation, I'd probably use a train in the day so that I can enjoy the scenery. There's a departure at 07:04, arriving Amsterdam at 15:29 (time 8H:25M, 1 change at Frankfurt). Although that's a longer trip, for me it would be preferable to trying to sleep in a crowded compartment with several others. I used Amsterdam as the destination for a quick search, as it's close to Haarlem.
