Questions about Schilthorn/Birg Construction Closures

Hello there. I'll be staying in Gimmelwald for four days in September and plan on doing a lot of hiking. I checked into the construction schedule for the new lift up the mountain, which currently has this message: "For safety reasons, the Thrill Walk at the Birg station is temporarily closed or only partially accessible. On the Schilthorn, some viewing spots are closed. However, the large terrace is still accessible without restrictions. The construction work has no effect on railway operations or restaurant services on the Schilthorn."

I'm staying so close and it'd feel criminal not to go. But wondering if any of you who live there or have been recently can comment about the degree to which the obstructions make the visit less worthwhile.

Many thanks,

Andy

When we went to Schilthorn the thrill walk was closed. I can't say we missed it. I'd say if you can go on a day with clear skies that's what is most important. If you are into James Bond, that was a fun extra. In general, weather in the mountains is best in the morning. That was the case for us In BO. I think if you are on that first morning train, you get free breakfast or there is some other benefit.

I was there just 2 days ago and was able to walk the thrill walk. I couldn't tell it's partial or all opened but it's quite short. There are lots of construction, but as far as I can tell, everything is open. I wasn't as impressed by Schillthorn but because I just went to Aguille du Midi just a few days ago.

The Thrill Walk is open and there is plenty of viewing areas accessible to justify a trip from Gimmelwald. Have fun!
