Question on train travel

Hi,
I will be taking the train from Murren Switzerland to Belgium. I am wanting to visit a day in Luxembourg. Is it better to go from Switzerland, stay 1 day and night in Luxembourg and then go onto Belgium or should I go to Belgium and just go to Luxembourg as a day trip by train?
Any thoughts appreciated!
Kathy

In general I think you should spend a night in Luxembourg, it will allow you to see more than just visiting as a day trip. On the other hand, Luxembourg is not what you might call a budget destination.

Kathy this is really a matter of personal preference - there is no right answer. Some people hate short stays and don't want to unpack unless they are staying more than a night, so for them it would be worth the extra time to backtrack to Luxembourg from Belgium. Me - I don't mind one night stays and have done many of them in Europe. I visited Luxembourg City for just one night this way - train from Paris, spend a night in Luxembourg City, then train on to Brussels. Worked fine for me. If you have one night stays, maybe it's better for you to head first to Belgium then come back.

I definitely don't mind one night stays so I appreciate the info. It sounds like stopping for the night in Luxembourg will work out perfect. Thanks for your help!
