If anyone has been on this tour... on day 6 it leaves Lugano on the way to Lausanne..it stops in Zermatt. Any idea around what time group arrives in Zermatt and then leaves Zermatt? the itinerary only says "we'll have free time to explore the village ". just trying to get an idea of how long the group is given in Zermatt? thanks in advance !
We were on the tour pre- COVID, so things may have changed. Our time in Zermatt was limited to about two hours, I think. The guide will try to schedule the time around the clearest weather, so you actually see the summit. It's was our choice to view the summit from the town, or go up further on the lift/ gondola (?)
Have a fantastic trip!
I took the tour several years ago. We probably had about 2.5 to 3 hours there. It was a nice day and guide had an optional trip up the funicular to Sunnegga. Great views of the Matterhorn from there. My photos are time stamped 2pm. The trip up and back probably took 90 minutes and we grabbed a quick lunch near the train station. Zermatt is car free so the bus parked outside of town and we took the train in and out.
I did this tour last year. We had about 2.5 to 3 hours or so in Zermatt. Enough time to get lunch and walk around.
BTW - check out the ceiling of the St. Mauritius Church in downtown Zermatt. Very unique depiction of Noah's Ark!
My experience in 2019 was that this was 2.5-3 hours. I found this travel day to be probably the longest travel day I have ever had on a RS tour. I was quite happy to take one of furniculars up to a viewpoint restaurant, sit and enjoy the views. We also walked through the town as a group.
PS This is one of my favorite all time tours. I know you are really going to enjoy yourself.
Thank you everyone for your wonderful feedback! I can always count on this forum to steer me in the right direction!
You guys are awesome! happy travels!
