Question about seat reservations on Golden Pass train on Saturday morning, July 19

4 of us will be leaving Muerren for Lyon. We have to make a train in Geneva at 1330. We can easily get there via Bern leaving as late as 0900. But I want to go on the scenic Golden Pass route. It looks like we have to leave Muerren at 0630. That's OK.

My question is: Can I wait until I am in Switzerland on July 15 before I get seat reservations on the Golden Pass train from Spiez to Montreux leaving Spiez at 0818? Should I try to get the reservation done before we go? How do I do that? We do have a SwissPass.

I know that train is not the Golden Pass panoramic train but it takes the route. That's enough.

That 8:18 train is a regular regional train ( or two trains actually, with a change at Zweisimmen.). It follows the Golden Pass route but it is not a Golden Pass train. They do not take reservations on regional trains.

I will add that the time we did that the regional train was not the least bit crowded. We practically had a car to ourselves. The train the next day from Montreux to Geneva was a different story. It was so crowded with commuters ( morning train) that we did not find seats and rode standing. If there is an IC train there that fits your schedule you might make fezzes for that. The Swiss railmsite willmshownyounthe schedule,,type of train, and even the expected passenger load.

No need to reserve. Just hop on and find a place.

So grateful for your rapid response. Great to know that a reservation is not necessary. Having been in Switzerland once before, I know how efficient Swiss trains usually are and how helpful the employees usually are.

Not only is it not necessary, it is not possible. They do ot take reservations on those regional trains.
