Question about boat and luggage

Can anyone tell me the best way to do this...

We will be leaving Wengen at the end of our trip and want to do a boat tour at either Montreaux or Chillon (would like to see both, if possible) and end up that night in Lausanne since we have a hotel there the night before our flight leaves for home later the next day out of Geneva. If we catch the boat at Montreaux or Lausanne, we have will have all our luggage with us at that point making it hard to get off at Chillon or Montreaux to explore. Is there a better way to arrange this?

Would it work time wise (or otherwise) to take the train from Wengen to Lausanne, leave our luggage at hotel, and THEN take a boat from Lausanne to Montreaux and Chillon and return to Lausanne by the evening?

Hi,
I see two options.
With an early start you can:
- take train from Wengen to Montreux via Zweisimmen on the scenic Golden Pass line (4-4.5 hours). Or save one hour going via Visp.
- leave luggage in Montreux Station.
- either take the train or the 201 trolleybus to Chillon (if you just missed a train, go down the stairs towards the lake and take the bus)
- Visit Chillon Castle (1.5-2 hours, it's large and quite strenuous with many stairs)
- bus or train back to Montreux, get luggage, take boat to Lausanne (1.5 hours)
As you can see it's quite the trek.

Or you can go straight to Lausanne from Wengen in less than 3.5 hours, check in, then take S3 train to Chillon, and boat back from either Chillon itself (infrequent) or Montreux (best reached by bus 201 from Chillon as above). Or vice versa: boat there, train back.

No Golden Pass railway, but frankly I like option two better. Also, arriving by train into Lausanne from Bern is breathtakingly beautiful if you sit on the left side. All the Lavaux vineyards unfold down towards the lake.
