Purchasing STP

https://www.swissrailways.com/en

On this site it says I can purchase using US Dollars, CHF or Euros. It is less expensive if I choose CHF, but then they want to charge me a 3% fee! It isn't a credit card fee, it is a fee to use their currency instead of mine. That seems strange. Is there a site I am not finding where I can purchase a STP in CHF's without paying the fee? The current exchange rate is going down a little and I wanted to take advantage. How long before I need to use it should I buy it? Our first travel day in Switzerland is September 20.

Thanks,
Janet

Joe- yours isn't the only brain that went straight to oil. I had to Google STP, referencing Swiss Rail, to find that it meant Swiss Travel Pass. The dangers of using initials or abbreviations with no context.

CJean--so sorry! I have been studying these darn passes and ticket prices and searching and figuring for so long, I guess everyone can just read my mind! I do hate a plethora of acronyms! Janet

when they start asking for extra fees it is often a sign that you clicked through to the wrong place. Glad you stopped in time.

I read your mind!
I've purchased quite a few STP over the years.

North of the 49th also thought we were talking oil. Mind you, most of the time I can’t figure out what airports posters are talking about when they give the initials of their departures or destinations:-)

Susie, those make me comfortable cuz I worked in aviation for my career. I have learned a lesson on this post and will do better. I did get the answer and it did save me money! Thanks to all.

Swissrailways.com is the website of the Swiss Travel Centre, which is jointly owned by Switzerland Tourism and the SBB. As such it is a bona fide source for buying tickets and passes.

The site is a bit friendlier for tourists, as the SBB website is primarily for locals, and can be a bit confusing.

Regarding credit card fees: That is something you will probably have on the SBB site as well.
