purchasing rail tickets-which website

I have found two different websites from which to purchase the Swiss pass or half fare card. They have different prices. Is there an official railway page? I have looked at swissrailways.com as well as www.sbb.ch. Any suggestions for which one to use or why prices may be different?

This has me confused:
"There is one regular flexible fare between any two Swiss stations via a given route, good for any departure that day. The price is fixed and availability is unlimited, you can buy at this price at the station on the day if you like. You sit anywhere you like.
If you buy one of these full-price full-flex tickets at www.sbb.ch, www.thetrainline.com or www.omio.com, it is valid on any train between those stations by the route stated on the date you bought it for, even if you selected a specific train."

I don't see "one regular flexible fare". I see many different fares on a given day depending on the departure time.

Not sure, but it seems you are in the wrong part of the SBB app. You can buy the Swiss Pass at this web address:

https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/inspiration/international-guests/swiss-travel-pass.html

Note: Make sure you are looking for Swiss Travel Pass, sold to foreigners, not the Swiss Travel Card,
sold only to Swiss citizens. And I think you want to create an account in the SBB app first, then buy the Swiss Travel Pass, using the same credentials. From other postings, seems the Pass will show up in the app, but not right away.

Thanks. I see where I can buy the pass. I was trying to look at costs of tickets to try to determine if it was worth it to buy the pass or the half fare card. When I read about the full-price full-flex tickets, I couldn't find them. I like the convenience of the pass in that you don't have to buy a tickets. You can just get on. But if there one standard fare between cities and you can get on any train, it might be more cost effective to get that each day after buying the half card fare. I can't actually find that on the website however. I am not in the app.

I don't know if you can buy the Swiss half fare card in the app. I know I can use the link in my previous post, select "Discounts" or some such thing, click on Half Fare Card. Then I choose to login with the login I use for the app. Then I can see the price and ordering info for the Half Fare Card.

As for which option is cheaper, it's a lot of addition, but at least you can use the app to get all the standard ticket prices for your journeys and then add all them up. To further complicate the math is that the STP includes a lot of boats, museums, and some other discounts.

The sbb website will fists show the cheapest available fare. If you click on the fare you will see the standard, fixed, fare as well.

Discounted fares are for a specific train, and cannot be refunded. Standard tickets are good for any train on a route, and are refundable.

In Switzerland most people still buy their tickets just moments before travel. Train travel is mass transit, used by people of all kinds to go about their daily business.

Swissrailways.com is operated by the Swiss Travel Centre, which is a joint venture between SBB And the Swiss Tourism Office. It is a valid place to buy a Swiss Travel Pass.
