Proposed Itinerary August - Feedback

We are finally planning to travel, our family has booster and we have 8 day swiss travel pass, I'd appreciate any feedback on this plan for early August

Day 1 arrive early morning to Zurich, travel to Luzern, sleep
Day 2 Luzern (Mt. Rigi or Mt. Pilatus) sleep in Luzern
Day 3 early train to Chur - Train from Chur to Brig - Train to Murren (long train travel day - very scenic) sleep Murren
Chur departs 11:05 arrives 3:40 to Brig

Day 4 Murren area hiking
Day 5 Murren area hiking
Day 6 not sure yet [may add night in Luzern or sleep in Chur for earlier departure to Brig]
Day 7 Train from Murren to Montreux and sleep. [4 hours approx]
Day 8 depart from Geneva - flight to UK in the afternoon

thank you very much for any help

two quick comments - I hope when you say "travel to Luzern, sleep" you must mean you will sleep in Luzern that night, not that you will sleep the day away! Second, not sure why you would detour to Luzern on Day 6 on your way to Montreux. If you want more time in Luzern, add it after Day 2 and move your itinerary forward by one day. Also, would not recommend adding a lodging destination (as in "sleep in Chur for earlier departure to Brig") just to take an early train, unless it is necessary for airport travel. The wasted time moving locations (packing/unpacking, checking in/checking out) is not worth it. The swiss trains have such frequent service from early a.m. to late p.m. that you should be better off just taking early trains and/or finding express routes instead of changing your location base.

Thank you Amy. this is helpful. I was deciding between extra night in Murren area on Day 6 or adding night in Luzern on Day 3.

I agree about avoiding moving locations and taking early trains - smart.

thanks again

Day 3 is punishing, in my opinion. If your family includes kids, they will go crazy if they are cooped up on trains for a full day. Plus, the only really scenic section on your planned route is Chur-Andermatt, the rest is nice but not out of the ordinary for Switzerland.

I'd much rather head from Luzern to Mürren via the Luzern-Interlaken express, which is very scenic too.
And day 6 should be spent in Montreux, in my opinion, so that you can avoid the one-night stay there.

Thank you Balso - this type of feedback is really appreciated. Simplifying the itinerary now.
