Private Transportation VS Train

I'm new, I'm thrilled, I qualify for senior discounts and I absolutely want your tips.
In April, a group of 7 will be visiting Interlaken, Switzerland for 3 nights and then traveling to Como Town, Italy for a couple more nights. We are trying to decide between taking a train vs private transportation. The total duration of our Europe trip is 3-4 weeks so we will each have some luggage. Through my research it looks like the average train ride to Como Town from Interkaken is going to be 5.5 hours with 2 transfers and cost around $100+ per ticket. With our luggage we are not excited about transferring 2 times.
I have found a private transportation company - called "daytrip.com" that will take us all and the trip is only 3 hours.
The Private transfer seems to only be about $40 a person more than if we go by train. We are on a modest budget.
I would like to hear what you think of using private transport companies and which ones you might recommend for our route?

Secondly, what website or tool is the best to use for finding and booking train tickets for Switzerland and Italy travels?

Thirdly, We are considering buying the Jungfrau Pass to use while doing our sight seeing in the area - for we will be going up to the Jungfraujoch or better known as "top of Europe" . We also will be traveling to the towns in the area to visit the sites. Any advice on how beneficial the Jungrau Pass might be would be greatly appreciated.

Daytrip.com. I've used them and its always gone well. The advantage is that while the train goes wizzing by everything, you can make some stops and see things along the way. Yes, that costs a little more but so much worth it.

Well, the train may go whizzing by. But there are some incredible rail routes between Interlaken and the Italian Lakes with some dropping scenery.

Monica, take a look at the packing forum here. You'll find all kinds of ideas to help lighten the load so your not weighed down with a lot of luggage.

Here is the route by car with all the DayTrip.com stops plotted on it. Maybe two I think are interesting. But my taste is a bit .... anyway ... https://maps.app.goo.gl/fxihFKtk82cEJJeE7 As far as if the views are better from the train or from a car; I have not idea. I presume with a car if something blows your socks off you can pull over and take it in. But a train for me is more comfortable than a van. But if you make a stop or two and get out and look at something, the van wont be bad. I looked at the train routes and tickets ... that one was fun to figure out. But the various trains all had adequate time for amateurs like me with luggage to make the changes. There isn’t a bad answer here.

Thank you Mr E for your response. Booking this ourselves and not going through a travel agent has left me a little worried. So your experience with Daytrip has been good and find them reliable? Were there any "extra cost" to your trips from the actual quote or was the quote pretty accurate?

Monica, I used them once for Hallstatt to Salzburg with a stop in a "bad" town and once from Bratislava to Budapest with a stop in Gyor and Pannonhalma. Both time drivers were on time, polite, professional. No extra charges. Cost was as advertised. I think I gave each about 15 euro as a tip.

We have used Daytrip multiple times; all with great success. Our drivers have been prompt, professional and have given us some given us some interesting tips and information about the areas. Vehicles have always been immaculately clean and comfortable. I love the Swiss train system, but can understand why it might be a hassle for 7 of you to make two transfers with luggage. We did not go to the Jungfraujoch ,so for us the BO Pass made more sense. Where do you plan to stay while in the Bernese Oberland area?

The Man in Seat 61 is a very helpful website in explaining train travel for Europe. https://www.seat61.com/ We have used the SBB app while in Switzerland and Trenitalia in Italy. Happy travels!

you can do Interlaken - Como with just one change, but indeed it will usually be two changes. Changing trains is a normal and expected feature of train travel, and on this trip you will do less walking with your luggage than in the average international airport. So do not worry about it.
Changing trains just means just walking from one door to another with your luggage in tow, with sometimes an escalator or two in between.
Cost will be. less than 100$,- You will be needing to get to Interlaken, and will do excursions in the area.If you are only doing things in the Jungfrau Area the Jungfrau Travel Pass is a good option. To get to Interlaken from the airport get a Saver Day Pass, and also get that for the trip from Interlaken to Como. (You will need to add a Chiasso - Como ticket, but that is easy).

Regarding Daytrip: Offering transportation for payment requires a license in Switzerland. And the driver will want to be paid for the return as well, so I would expect it to be expensive. Unless the driver is operating illegally.

monica.brightbeginnings, DayTrip.com does not do an add on cost for the driver's return trip. The quoted price (which seemed pretty reasonable) is what you pay. They arent the cheapest but they get the job done and you have the opportunity to see a bit more by adding a stop or two.
