Possible Switzerland Itinerary - Looking for Guidance!

Hi all,

We are thinking through honeymoon itineraries for next summer (June, but the timing is flexible) and looking at splitting the trip between Switzerland and France, taking the train between Zurich and Paris. For planning purposes, I am thinking we will be in Switzerland for 4 days.

We want to hike in Switzerland, but also have a bit of time relaxing around the lakes. We are potentially planning:
- Fly into Zurich and travel to Berner Oberland
- Stay in either Wengen or Mürren for 2 days/3 nights, hiking both days
- Travel to either Bern, Oberhofen, or Lucerne (or a combination) for the remaining days
- Return to Zurich

Any advice on the different destinations on this trip? Or advice against this itinerary altogether? We are very active but by no means big hikers. We would be in regular sneakers and not packing additional hiking gear.

Researching all around the internet, this forum and all of your responses have proved the most helpful and insightful by far.

Thank you!

Welcome mollyw. I think I would stay the whole time in the BO. Or Luzern (only 1.25 hours by train from the Zurich airport rail station0. But 4 days is not enough time to split among two locations, IMO. And you don't need to go back to Zurich to get to Paris. You can catch the long distance trains in Luzern or Bern.

Four days is way, way too short a time for Switzerland! Consider either Switzerland or France. Combining them does not do justice to either place. And do focus on the Berner Oberland when you visit Switzerland.

Congratulations! I’d suggest adding locations to Paris which are in France. There are so many reachable by high-speed TGV trains ( Loire Valley with its castles in 1-hr from Paris to Tours;
Paris to Strasbourg in 1:45 hrs for hiking between storybook towns and vineyards of the Alsace-Lorraine etc.). and you can buy the train tickets in advance for about 70% off. You will have enough planning for the wedding. Complicated itineraries with too many airports is not fun. Take the trains, relax and have fun.
Cheers!

If you can fly into Zürich, then I actually do think that spending 4 days in Switzerland is worthwhile if you want to see the Alps! The train ride to Paris isn't that long afterwards.
To keep things simple, I would just stay in the Berner Oberland the whole time. You can have your relaxing time up there too, it will be more relaxing than changing hotels.

I agree with Balso. Totally worth at least the few days you can get. Switzerland is expensive, so you four days may be enough!

Strasbourg is also a lovely suggestion as well. Strasbourg/Colmar then high speed to Paris.
