Hi poorvi205. Are you interested hiking/walking or simply riding to enjoy the views?

If you come via Bergün as recommended by me.crewe, you might stop for an hour or two at the Albula Railroad Museum. Very nice, especially for railroad fans and a nice break in the trip. You simply buy a ticket Chur to Pontresina via Bergün and you can “hop-on-hop-off” as you wish and take the next train.

We like to go to Poschiavo as a half-day trip and have lunch at one of the restaurants in the village center. You’ll feel like you are in Italy.

Your hotel may include a pass for local trains and cableways. In addition to Muottas Muragl, ride up to Diavolezza for a glacier view.

While I am not a fan of St. Moritz as a place to stay, we like to walk from the train station to Laj de Staz, about a 30 minute walk with lovely views of the lake and mountains. There is a very good restaurant there as well as a less formal kiosk if you want to fortify yourself for the walk back to town, or you can walk out behind the restaurant to arrive in 30 minutes or so at Muottas Muragl valley station and take that cableway or catch a train back to Pontresina.

@laurel, thank you so much for the detailed reply- while i enjoy hiking, cannot do steep incline or even moderate hikes due to my knees and can do only flat terrain walks- managed to do the least intensive ones in Bachalpsee, Kleine Scheidegg and Oeschinensee last year. I would love to do something similar this year and was looking at the Ospizio Bernina to Alp Grum route and the Lai da Palpuogna hikes (though still looking up the intensity of these routes) and the walk to Chastè Peninsula in Sils.

Will check with my hotel if they provide the travel pass. Also have not included St Moritz as I thought I would visit the other much prettier places around. Do you recommend combining Ospizio Bernina to Alp Grum walk, lunch at Alp Grum and a visit to Poschiavo in a day's trip? For the next day I was thinking of combining a visit to the Landwasser Viaduct and Bergun ( extending to Lai da Palpuogna if that is doable).

Will keep the ride up to Diavolezza in mind as well.

For the Bernina Express I am not buying the Swiss Pass this time round and I thought I would take the regional train instead, from a budget perspective. Would a seat reservation be required in the regular coaches in the Bernina Express? I was looking to do the trail from ospizio bernina to Alp Grüm, eat at the restaurant and then head to Poschiavo- do you think this is fine?

I found a saver fare for Chur to Pontresina - it is through Landquart and not via Bergün- am trying to fit Bergun into my 4 day stay in Pontresina (combining it with a visit to the Landwasser viaduct viewing platform - hopefully will be able to enjoy the Albula line train route this way then.

I am researching hiking from Ospizio Bernina to Alp Grum for my own trip and it looks like it begins with a steep descent with undulating terrain the rest of the way. I am getting this from piecing together trail stats on All Trails from 2 different routes. I would recommend you do the same. You can preview the trail and see gradient details. People who have done it, may have a different impression.

It looks like it is about 5 miles one way, but it appears you can return via a short train ride.

I have done that walk, and it is a nice one. But I would advise to use sticks. They make going downhill so much easier.
