Pocket WIFI rental in Switzerland

Hello,

Myself and my wife will be visiting Switzerland for 6 days, arriving at Geneva Airport on the evening of October 14th. We are considering a rental of Pocket Wifi (advertised on Sbb website) during these days.We are hoping to pick up the device at the Swiss tourist center at the airport on arrival. The rental fees, based on the days of rental, appear reasonable to us.

I look forward to any recommendations (pros/cons) concerning this option of regular wifi coverage during our swiss holidays from swiss travel experts on this forum.

I can't speak to Pocket Wifi, but I used Travelers' Wifi (https://travelerswifi.com) in Switzerland and had a great experience. It was reliable and worked well everywhere, even on hiking trails in the middle of nowhere. On days I was using Google Maps pretty heavily to find bus schedules/walking directions/etc, the extra battery came in super handy so that I didn't have to rely on finding a plug to charge the unit.

I just hope you will be looking up at the scenery you traveled so far to see instead of down at a phone.

There's plenty to see, and when you are settled in your hotel for the night there is likely to be plenty of wifi.

Paper maps - usually free at Tourist Information Centres - work well too and don't care if you drop them.

In case you think that I am stuck in the stone age, I always keep up with the Rick Steves Forums on my laptop when on holiday, and take a 10 inch Samsung tablet and three phones.

In Switzerland on trains and on foot I look up and out.

Thanks for that humorous reply/advice, Nigel! I was hoping use the Wifi coverage to call home(Canada) using facetime and also to book train tickets on the IPhone SBB app, use google maps etc with the help of continuous Wifi during our Swiss holidays. That away I was hoping to avoid purchasing Data and Phone call coverage package from our cell Phone coverage provider during the period.

Regardless, I agree with your basic advice about focusing on the fabulous scenery during the trip rather than wasting time on web browsing, etc.
