Hi, I'll be arriving from UK and just wondering what plug adapters I should bring. I've read that Switzerland use type J and type C electrical outlets.
Should I bring adapters for both of these types?
If I remember correctly, type C worked in many places but type J worked everywhere.
In my 2 recent trips, most of the outlets needed the type C adapters. I think it was one of my older hotels where the type J would have worked too.
This is the one I take and it works fine:

The type C will work everywhere, but the type J will not fit in an outlet designed for the type C. Some outlets are flat or have rounded edges, which is why both adapters will fit. But the type C outlet has the pointed ends which will only take the type C adapter.
So, type C is all you need.
The easiest thing, just buy what's on Amazon. Second easiest, buy what's in the airport or train station.
Bring every adapter you can think of and you can't go wrong, it's not always consistent.
My email to RS Europe: "I'm going to Switzerland and need a power adapter. The description of your Continental Europe Electrical Adapter says, "They'll do the trick across the Continent (except Switzerland)." What electrical adapter do we need for Switzerland and where do we have to go to buy it?"
Their response: "While Switzerland has the round, two-hole outlet like our continental adapter, sometimes they are recessed into the wall making it difficult to use. This is not always the case, but if you have multiple adapters you can stack them on top of each other (only two are needed) so you can plug things in. I hope this helps!"
So that's my plan. I already had four of the two-prong plugs on hand.
There are two models of the Euro two pin plug adapters, and the difference between them is the diameter of the pins. THIS model should work for ungrounded appliances in Switzerland.
Grounded outlets in Switzerland use a centre pin, which is offset a bit from the two other pins. THIS model should work in Switzerland.
If you'll be travelling elsewhere in Europe, there are other models you may need.
