Please share your experience with the Hotel Krone Thun -- Obere Hauptgasse, 2 - 3600, Thun

I don’t have any personal experience with it, but it looks like a nice hotel—it's rated 8.9 on Booking.com. It's about a 9-minute walk from the train station, 5 minutes from the castle, and 9 minutes from the boat dock.

I’ve never stayed overnight in Thun, but I’ve done a couple of day trips there. It’s a nice place to spend a couple of nights.

Nice location on the old town square, basically close to all things you would want to do in Thun.

• Inexpensive place for lunch is the Coop Kyburg. Larger Coop stores often have a self-serve restaurant and this location happens to be right on the river Aare - grab a window seat and enjoy the view.
• I can also recommend the family owned Steinmann confectionary shop/restaurant in the Bälliz (car restricted shopping area next to the old town). Amazing cakes and pastries as well as chocolates.
• Speaking of chocolate - there is a Laderach store also in the Bälliz, great place to purchase gifts to take home.
• Closest nearby mountain is the Niederhorn - a very nice journey along the lake in the bus (free with your tourist card) followed by funicular and then gondola. Beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains (especially the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau trio and the pyramid shaped Niesen).
• Nice park in Thun is Schadau - right on the lake, also with great mountain views. Schloss Schadau is a swanky hotel/restaurant and we have gone there to enjoy a snack or even just something to drink on their outdoor terrace. You can walk there or just hop on the bus (again, free with your tourist card).

Edited for clarity: It is the bus that is free with your tourist card, not the journey up the mountain :-) For that, and a lot of other things, the tourist card will provide you with a discount.

Worth looking into is the Spring Specials on the Lake of Thun. This is something you need to pre-purchase (deadline is usually in April sometime). The cost is around 70.00 and it allows you to do three of five excursions. No half fare card needed - just one mountain visit is around 60.00 regular price, so it is a great deal. I have purchased this for overseas guests in the past, and it has worked really well. Here are the details, check back closer to the end of the year to see next year's prices.
