Please provide feedback/suggestions on 6 day Switzerland itinerary

Hi folks,

We'll be traveling to Switzerland for the first time as a family later this month. Unfortunately, we're behind in terms of planning some of our accommodations and activities, so I'd love to get feedback from folks here:

8/20 (Tue) - Fly into Geneva. Arrive in the evening and spend the night there.

8/21 (Wed) - Explore downtown Geneva in the morning, and take the train to Montreux/Vevey to stay with friends.

8/22 (Thu) - Take chocolate train to Gruyere and Broc. Ideally, we can go to Interlaken at the end of this day trip, instead of returning to Montreux. Stay in Interlaken overnight.

8/23 (Fri) - Day trip to Jungfraujoch. Return to Interlaken

8/24 (Sat) - Day trip to Lauterbrunnen Valley. Return to Interlaken

8/25 (Sun) - Travel to Zurich. Stay overnight.

8/26 (Mon) - Explore Zurich in the morning, and take train to Paris

I have some high level questions that I'd love people's opinions on:

  1. Does this itinerary make sense overall? Is it even possible/feasible to do?
  2. I've seen some posts that people should stay in Lauterbrunnen, instead of Interlaken. Given the activities we want to do, does that make sense for us?
  3. I wasn't planning on renting a car during our stay, relying instead on the 6 day Swiss Travel Pass. Will that work?
  4. Anything super obvious that I'm missing?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I’ve only been to Switzerland once (in 2022) so I’m no expert but I did not care for Interlaken so I would look to Lauterbrunnen, if you can find accommodations at this point. I would also consider Lucerne over Zurich, nothing wrong with Zurich but I really loved the old town atmosphere, lake and surrounding mountains in Lucerne.

  1. Yes, it does to me.
  2. Since you are doing last-minute planning, it might be helpful to stay flexible with your accommodations. Consider Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Wengen, and even Wilderswil. All these locations offer easy access to Jungfraujoch and the Lauterbrunnen Valley. At this point, finding suitable accommodations for your family might be more important than the exact location.
  3. Good idea! This will be much more enjoyable for everyone rather than driving. Someone else might have better information regarding the pass.
  4. Not that I can see. Sounds wonderful!

You need to consider the weather in your planning to the mountain peaks. 8/22 could be an alternate day if 8/23 and 8/24 are cloudy . I liked the mountains of the Lauterbrunnen valley much more than Gruyeres and the Callier Chocolate factory. Interlaken is not a problem as it has more eating options. SwissNomad provided optional lodging locations that I would also consider

Unterseen is a quiet suburb of Interlaken (walkable unless tons of luggage).
You may find more lodging choices there.
I much enjoyed the quiet, but convenience to Interlaken West transport.
