Please help us figure out what to do with all this terrible weather

Looking for advice on thing to do/places to go in the BO area. The weather has put a stop to all our plans and trying to make the best of our time but it’s kind of stressful right now. We are here for 2more nights and off to Lucern for 3nights. The weather is calling for clouds and rain everyday. I understand things can change at any time but the sky is awful and it’s now 4pm with rain. Not looking any better for the whole week. We are active and outdoor activities are why we are here so you can only imagine being in this beautiful area and stuck. Please, I will take and helpful advice.

Have you walked down the valley and viewed all the waterfalls?

Is the weather the same for Lakes Thun and Brienz? We went down there when it was raining and overcast in Grindelwald.

I noticed that when we went to the tops of the mountains that we were above the weather. What do the webcams show?

A friend and I were in BO and had a hike planned on a rainy day. It rained. A lot. We hiked anyway and got super wet. It was still fun. We also went to Trümmelbach Falls that day -- that site was mostly out of the rain.

I just checked the webcams for one of our favorite places in Switzerland, Bettmeralp, on the “sunny side” of the Alps (south of the Berner Oberland/Jungfrau region). It is late afternoon there, and the sky is mostly blue.

But that is a long train ride from Lauterbrunnen, and who knows what tomorrow will bring. We have encountered rain and clouds there too.

The lesson from this and other recent posts about the rain and clouds in the BO is that mountain weather is quirky and changeable, especially in springtime. Visitors must be prepared to adjust their expectations, their plans, and their clothing accordingly.

Can you leave and move on to your next destination early?
We left 2 days early on one of our trips (stayed in Murren) after a full day of heavy rain and more coming for the next day and the next. We love staying in Murren but not in heavy, non-stop rain.

Lots of good options for rainy days: Trummelbach Falls, Ballenberg open-air museum, a trip to Thun to see the castle, a boat ride on lake Thun or brienz, a trip to the giessbach hotel and waterfalls, a trip to Bern, St. Beatus caves, shopping in Interlaken (I love looking around the coop and migros, stock up on some chocolate). Pop into the hotel edelweiss in murren for some of their delicious apple strudel and a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

I love Bern in the rain. Good Einstein museum there. And you can use the rain time to relax and read a book or catch up on travel chores such as laundry.

Here are things we did when it was all-day rain (in Lauterbrunnen): visit the Lauterbrunnen museum (very close to where the river crosses under the main road), walk up and behind Staubach Falls (mostly out of the rain), visit Trummelbach Falls (no rain inside the mountain), take the train to Interlaken Ost and browse the huge Coop store.

We walked one very rainy day down to Trammelbach Falls and then took the bus back and did laundry/read books. Another moderately rainy day on another trip we took the boat to Brienz, ate lunch and then walked the path along the lake part way back and then caught the boat.

Another vote for Bern. We went to Bern on the day it rained in Wengen. Bern is great because the Main Street has very wide covered sidewalks. You won’t get wet at all. We were there on a Sunday when shops were closed so we visited the bears. It was a great day trip.
